Chain Reaction

Opening Reception:
Saturday, March 21st, 2026
2-6 PM

This exhibition centers on a collaborative curatorial concept proposed by participating artist Jam with Flow.

Rather than relying on a single curator to determine the selection of works, the show was built through a circular chain of artists. Each participating artist selected two works by the next artist in the chain, creating a continuous loop of artistic dialogue and mutual discovery.

Through this process, every artist simultaneously took on the role of both creator and curator, shaping the exhibition through their own perspective while responding to the work of their peers. The result is a highly interconnected exhibition in which the relationships between artists become a central part of the show itself.

By design, the structure of the exhibition encourages artists to engage directly with one another’s works, highlighting unexpected connections and affinities across mediums, styles, and backgrounds. Each pairing reflects an individual artist’s curatorial choices, producing a layered and collaborative presentation that emphasizes community, trust, and creative exchange.

The exhibition brings together at 33+ participating artists working across a wide range of mediums. The works on view include ceramics, photography, block prints, collage, and painting in both acrylic and oil, among other forms. This diversity of materials and approaches creates a dynamic viewing experience that reflects the richness and breadth of the area’s contemporary artist community.

Who We Are

6M Community Arts is a program of Tenants and Owners Development Corporation (TODCO), whose Community Arts Initiative aims to empower residents of South of Market (SOMA) by facilitating access to artistic tools and education, providing creative spaces for social engagement, and sponsoring public art projects which celebrate the diversity and resilience of the neighborhood.

We work with 6th on 7th Photography Workshop to pool resources for creative projects and focus on ways to champion the psychological health benefits on artistic involvement.
