From igniting the Mission mural movement in the ’70s to creating iconic Carlos Santana album art and Fillmore posters, Rios has shaped the city’s visual and musical culture for decades. His synesthetic approach—where sound inspires color—bursts through every canvas, poster, and tapestry.
Across the decades Michael’s “Color Of Sound” embodied the Spirit of San Francisco’s greatest music legend with his Art: Supernatural “Mumbo Jumbo” Album Art. Fillmore posters. Magnificent Stage Backdrops. Custom Guitar.
As TODCO’s artist-in-residence, Michael has captured the spirit of SoMa through restored murals, public art, and pieces honoring our neighborhood’s culture and history. We’re thrilled to present him in our very first solo show at 6M Gallery!
Throughout his time Michael’s Art has brought the creative Essence of Music Legends to visual life: Coltrane, Miles Davis, Bob Marley, Hendrix. And always Carlos.
In the 1970s Michael’s murals helped define the neighborhood’s artistic identity and earned national attention. This video describes his 24th St BART mural restoration.
This is more than a retrospective—it’s a celebration of the enduring energy that connects visual art, rhythm, and cultural identity.
