In 1985, Hospitality House proudly held its very first art auction to benefit their Community Arts Program (CAP) the only free fine arts studio and gallery in San Francisco specifically designed for artists and community members facing various economic challenges.

Each year, more than 3,500 neighborhood artists take advantage of the free materials and ample space, using it to create, display, and sell their remarkable artwork. In addition, CAP organizes a variety of regular exhibitions at its gallery located at 1009 Market Street, as well as at other venues around the city.

Notably, artists retain all the money earned from their sales making the program a unique social enterprise.

Hospitality House is a progressive, community-based organization located in San Francisco’s Tenderloin Neighborhood, Sixth Street Corridor, and Mid-Market Area that provides opportunities and resources for personal growth and self-determination to homeless people and neighborhood residents. Their mission is to build community strength by advocating policies and rendering services which foster self-sufficiency and cultural enrichment.

Who We Are

6M Community Arts is a program of Tenants and Owners Development Corporation (TODCO), whose Community Arts Initiative aims to empower residents of South of Market (SOMA) by facilitating access to artistic tools and education, providing creative spaces for social engagement, and sponsoring public art projects which celebrate the diversity and resilience of the neighborhood.

We work with 6th on 7th Photography Workshop to pool resources for creative projects and focus on ways to champion the psychological health benefits on artistic involvement.

Where We Are

We’re located on the first floor of the historic Bayanihan House, an affordable housing SRO (single-room occupancy) building on Sixth and Mission.

In the summer of 2025, date to be determined,
6M’s first exhibition will be…
